Most people do not develop symptoms for HPV. The usual tell tale sign of HPV is the development of genital warts in the private areas. The disease is spread by sexual contact, and can still be spread if the person has the virus and not showing symptoms.

- Genital wart development around the penis, anus, vagina, and inner thigh . Genital warts usually appear as a small bump or group of bumps in the genital area. They can be small or large, raised or flat, or shaped like a cauliflower. A healthcare provider can usually diagnose warts by looking at the genital area. (source: CDC)

- Testing for the virus is next to impossible. There is no developed test to test for a persons "HPV status".
- There are HPV tests that can be used to screen for cervical cancer. These tests are recommended for women aged 30 years and older. This screening is not designed for men, adolescents, or women under the age of 30.
The Brighter Side.
- High-risk HPV infection accounts for approximately 5 percent of all cancers worldwide. However, most high-risk HPV infections occur without any symptoms, go away within 1 to 2 years, and do not cause cancer.
- The good thing is most people who have HPV won't develop symptoms (no gential warts), or health conditions related to HPV. The only real way to know you have HPV is to recieve a Pap test (screening for cervical cancer), or develop more serious health concerns aka cancer.
